DAR honors Charter Middle School patriotic essay winners
Wyatt’s application, four generation ancestor chart and his patriotic essay were sent to National SAR headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky to compete with other state winners for an $8,000 scholarship. $4,000 and $2,000 runner-up scholarships were also chosen.

Wyatt S. Hahn of the Northern Star Council Boy Scouts of America is the Minnesota winner of the SAR’s Eagle Scout Scholarship and Awards Program. Wyatt, seen here receiving his certificate and medal from the Eagle Scout Scholarship and Awards Chairman, John Sassaman and his assistant, Stuart Markham, was honored at the annual Washington Day Luncheon held at Jax Cafe. His father and mother were also in attendance. Wyatt read his patriotic essay about the Battle of Point Pleasant which is presented below.
Each year, Lions District 22W sponsors a Patriotic Essay Contest in which the public is invited to submit essays expressing their views on different aspects of Patriotism. There are contest categories for elementary school students, middle school students, high school students (the contest is also open to home-schooled students in each of these categories), adults, and members of Lions or Lioness Clubs. Each club can sponsor contests in each category, and the winner of each is forwarded to the District 22W level for final judging. The District Winner in each category receives a , and will be invited to read their essay before a meeting of the District 22W Cabinet. That was the opening paragraph in a New York teen’s winning essay on “What it means to be American”. Sponsored by the Department of Home Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement division, the patriotic essay contest drew contestants from all throughout Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.Msgr. Cramers Assembly of the Knights of Columbus conducts an annual Patriotic Essay contest at all schools in the Lake Charles Diocese. The winner is presented an award at the annual Assembly Awards Banquet. Louisiana was the year 200 winner. Congratulations, we allappreciate your view on Patriotism. For 11 years, the Tulare Masons Lodge has organized the patriotism essay writing competition, open to all Tulare fifth graders. In organizing the contest, the masons promote local schools' standards.
